History

Sacred Whisper Society was originally founded in 2009 by Gordon Plain Bull Jr. By 2011, Plain Bull developed a vision and mission statement in response to receiving a grant for himself and 5 other individuals to attend a White Bison Medicine training by Woody Blaine in Helena, Montana.

Plain Bull participated in many Indigenous rights events including the Longest Walk, and the 2013 Idol No More rallies held in Chicago IL, Lafayette IN, Bloomington IN, Terre Haute IN, Indianapolis IN and in Columbus Ohio. After the Longest Walk 4 Plain Bull settled in Colorado and continues to reside there. Since that time Sacred Whisper Societies have been enacted in Virginia (Eastern Branch) and the Ohio Branch.

On July 11 2022 Plain Bull visited Ohio in his travels and stopped for a visit in Delaware Ohio. There he visited and attended a ceremony and felt the need for a Sacred Whisper Society to be initiated in Ohio. Sacred Whisper Society Ohio Branch has continued to flourish since.

Sacred Whisper Ohio Branch

Sacred Whisper Ohio Branch is a community who seeks healing through finding balance emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. We recognize that healing comes in many forms and for many reasons. Our Society strives to act as a peer support group to aid in healing for members as well as our communities. Sacred Whisper Society Ohio Branch helps to promote recovery from drugs and alcohol through culture and tradition. Sacred Whisper Society Ohio Branch includes outreach and positive support to youth who may be at risk or high risk individuals within the community including, but not limited to cultural teachings, education, and mentoring. Sacred Whisper Society Ohio Branch is open to ALL races, ethnicities, and cultures. Our Medicine Wheel teaches that we are all connected therefore our Society strives for inclusiveness.

Sacred Whisper Ohio Branch hosts and facilitates a Men’s Talking Circle and support group that uses peer support and Medicine Wheel teachings to help men overcome everyday obstacles of life that may hinder the person from spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical growth. This Circle also strives to help men become more supportive persons for the women, girls, and Two-Spirits in our families and communities.

Sacred Whisper Society Ohio Branch hosts and facilitates a Women’s Talking Circle that is a trauma-responsive Circle which honors the belief that ALL people are sacred. This Circle is open to women and women-aligned persons.

Sacred Whisper Society Ohio Branch will soon be offering a White Bison Medicine Wellbriety Talking Circle based on the 12 Steps and Medicine Wheel teachings. In conjunction with the Wellbriety Talking Circle, we hope to begin offering a 14-16 in depth class through White Bison Medicine on recovery including the 12 Steps and Medicine Wheel teachings. The class will be free to those who are in need of such healing.
